Lady Liberty…
Smudged Mascara Under Eyes,
holding on to a fistful of tears
and thoughts of “all men are created equal”.
Smeared Lipstick,
blowing kisses at a dream deferred,
intoxicated off of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” for We The People.
Don’t cry Lady Liberty.
Let’s freedom ride, Lady Liberty.
Don’t worry, reach for the sky Lady Liberty.
Lady Liberty…
In her day,
she was an iconic symbol of American Independence.
But beauty fades;
they left her with a distinctive blemish.
Flaws and All, you’re still fly Lady Liberty.
Even freedom cries, Lady Liberty.
Remember; you have to get pass your past to redefine history, Lady Liberty.
In the land of Equal Rights & Justice,
Lady Liberty became a victim of domestic violence.
She remarried forty three times, attempting to get it right.
She was romanticizing of an Island of Hope,
an Island of Fears;
the night I saw her eyes well up with tears.
At the hands of Equal Rights & Justice,
Lady Liberty learned to suffer in silence.
She is to broken & blind to see, her forty fourth’s attempting to get it right.
She was romanticizing of Independence Mall,
affairs on Liberty Island;
the night I saw her with her lipstick smeared.
